Week 1 NFL Picks Against a 6-Year-Old

We are back!  It has been a while since we've taken to this blog, but with football season around the corner, it is time to get back to our annual tradition of picking football games against a little kid.

The kid is now 6 (or at least he will be next week), and he is learning more and more about sports.  He knows if Jeff Baker or David Murphy should be playing left field based on which hand the starting pitcher throws with, and he can tell who is batting based on their stance.  But, football is a different story.  He's still learning the game.

To recap, there will be four of us competing: me, the kid, JDaddy, and Uncle J.  The first year we did this, the kid won.  Last year, it was yours truly that blew away the competition.  But the kid was 1 win away from a .500 finish.  Not too bad and exactly where you would expect him to finish considering his picks are pretty much random.

Cowboys at Giants Predictions Against a 5-Year-Old

You've seen our season predictions.  Now it's time to get down to the business of making our weekly picks.  Last year, JDaddy and I went up against a 4-year-old.  It didn't turn out so well.  You'll be happy to know that we're doing it again this year!  Except this year the kid is now 5, so he's practically an expert by now.  No need to make fun of us this year if we lose.

And we have a special guest joining us this year.  Jim Dugan, famous crooner from Corpus Christi, TX asked to take on the kid this year.  Like a replacement official, Uncle J, as we'll call him, has no idea what he's in for.

The way this works is that the experts in the competition pick against the lines.  The kid will just pick winners.  If you want to explain to a 5-year-old about betting lines, be my guest.  But until he learns the intricacies of gambling, he's just going to guess who will win the game.

With today being Opening Night of the NFL season, we'll get started with the Dallas Cowboys against the New York Giants.  We'll release the rest of Week 1 later in the week.

The Final Three Games

This week’s list is a short one.

They were the last two Major League baseball games of the night.  The kind that only West Coast and die hard Texas Rangers fans can appreciate.  Seattle at Anaheim and Texas at Oakland.  I would venture to guess that even the fans at home watching on TV were not really interested, because it was the season premiere of Monday Night Football and it was a big one.  The New York Football Giants, winners of the NFC East the previous year, against the preseason darling Denver Broncos. Even Dennis Miller and Eric Dickerson couldn’t screw this up could they?
