JDRF and Eli's Encouragers

Each week we make our NFL picks against a 7-year-old kid.  We have been doing this since he was a 4-year-old (he won that year by the way), and while you know that he is a better gambler that us, something you may not know is that when he was 2 years old he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes is currently an incurable disease that requires multiple finger pricks and insulin injections in order to survive.  Great strides are being made in the treatments for T1D, but there is still no cure.  But we hope to change that, which is why each year we participate in the JDRF One Walk in Fort Worth.

Eli's Encouragers have been astoundingly supportive and generous, raising over $25,000 over the last 4 years, with over 250 walkers showing up on walk day.  Last year we had 100 walkers.

If you would like to become one of Eli's Encouragers, it is very simple.  We have a blog with all of the details about the walk and the spaghetti dinner we are having on October 11.  We also have a Facebook page and Twitter account.  We'd love for you (or your company if you're so inclined) to become part of our team!

Week 4 NFL Picks Against a 7 Year Old

Look at ol' JDaddy.  Look at that commanding lead his Week 3 picks have given him.  Not a bad job.

Now, I have to give a sincere apology to Uncle J.  He won Week 2, but I forgot to publish the following week's blog announcing his victory until Sunday afternoon.  So, here's to you Uncle J.  We can celebrate your victory in the basement of the pick 'em standings.

The kid is lurking back there.  Not a good start, but he's just biding his time.  Poor kid picked the wrong time to turn on the Cowboys.

Week 3 Results
JDaddy:12-4
7-Year-Old:8-8
CDog:7-9
Uncle J: 6-10

Overall Results
JDaddy: 27-20-1

Week 3 NFL Picks Against a 7 Year Old

Editor's Note:  The editor forgot to publish this post.  All the picks were made before Thursday.  Promise.

Our Week 2 picks didn't inspire much confidence in our abilities.  Uncle J was the only one that bothered to at least pick half of the games correctly.  If there is some good news for us, it is the fact that the kid finished dead last.  It's a place he does not see very often.  Here's to better things in Week 3.

Week 2 Results
Uncle J: 8-8
JDaddy: 7-9
CDog:7-9
7-Year-Old:6-10

Overall Results
JDaddy: 15-16-1
Uncle J: 14-17-1
7-Year-Old: 13-18-1
CDog: 13-18-1

Week 2 NFL Picks Against a 7 Year Old

Much like the first week of the NFL, we were all over the board with our picks.  JDaddy has the early lead, but he's back to picking the Cowboys.  However, the kid, for the first time ever, has picked against them.  If that doesn't strike fear into the heart of Jerry Jones, I don't know what will.

Week 1 Results
JDaddy: 8-7-1
7-Year-Old: 7-8-1
Uncle J: 6-9-1
CDog: 6-9-1

Week 1 NFL Picks Against a 7-Year-Old

It's been a slow year around the JDaddydu offices.  Rolling mills, health insurance, babies, new houses, and Tap Sports Baseball have all gotten in the way.  But there is one thing that we won't do without--the pick 'em contest against a kid.  It's been a long time since the kid was a 4-year-old rolling up wins against the experts here at JDaddydu.  He's now 7 and knows a little more about football.  Not that he needs the help.  He has won 2 out of the 3 years we've done this.  He's a real overachiever.

We hope you once again enjoy our contest.  We sure do, even if it makes us question why we spend so much time watching football since we obviously know nothing about it.
